Electronic Resources Librarian

The Harriet F. Ginsburg Health Sciences Library, College of Medicine, University of Central Florida (UCF)–Orlando, is seeking applicants for a team-oriented, technology embracing electronic resources librarian. Academic Resident Librarian Program, 2012–2013

Brief Program Description: The University Library, University of Illinois–Chicago (UIC), seeks candidates for its academic resident librarian program to serve 1-year postgraduate appointments with the possibility of renewal for a second year. A goal of the residency program is to increase diversity in the challenging and rewarding profession of academic librarianship, particularly among individuals traditionally underrepresented in the academy. Residents will work closely with library faculty to develop skills and an understanding of academic librarianship as a whole through the introduction to the different functional areas of the library, opportunities to participate on library committees and task forces, and exposure to professional associations. Priority Areas: Two or more resident positions will be available. Candidates with interests in one or more of the following areas are especially encouraged to apply: Technical services, with an emphasis on development and assessment of library discovery tools such as WorldCat Local and Summon; outreach, with an emphasis on initiatives to rural and underserved users (based at the UIC Library of the Health Sciences, Rockford, IL); reference and instruction, with an emphasis on instructional technology design and the development of multimedia learning objects; e-science, with an emphasis on data curation in support of university-wide data management and preservation initiatives; d igital preservation, with an emphasis on preservation architectures, standards, and workflows; digital image collections, with an emphasis on mapping using GIS technologies.

Minimum Qualifications: Recent completion of a master’s degree program in library and information science from an ALA-accredited program (graduation date spring 2011 or later). Knowledge of, and interest in academic libraries; and the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with library staff as well as faculty, students, and other library users.

Assistant Director, Clinical Services

Position Summary: The assistant director, Clinical Services, Weill Cornell Medical Library, will build dynamic, collaborative relationships within the clinical and allied health departments of Weill Cornell Medical College, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, and its affiliates. Implements and evaluates innovative clinical support services and contributes to the development of research and knowledge in the health sciences. Reports to the associate director, User Support, Research and Education, Weill Cornell Medical Library.

Position Activities: Maintain and cultivate strong relationships to support the needs of allied health and clinical communities. Supervise the library’s clinical support team. Oversee, develop, and implement clinical support services including, clinical librarianship program, systematic review service, and electronic medical record integration. Determine the impact of services and resources offered via ongoing assessment. Work collaboratively with faculty and students to assess and integrate information literacy skills into the medical school curriculum. Teach information literacy and evidence-based practice or other specialized classes in cooperation with library teaching faculty. As a member of the user support team, answer clinical and reference questions, conduct literature searches, provide consultations, and promote the use of library services and resources. Keep abreast of new developments in education, information resources, and clinical outreach services.

Required: Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program. An additional graduate degree in the health sciences or related field. Position Summary: The translational science librarian serves as the liaison for the Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC) and biomedical informatics programs including the Center for Health Informatics Policy (CHIP). Provides research support for members of the CTSC and the WCMC biomedical informatics community through consultation, training, current awareness, and service development in bibliographic and informatics-related research tools. Reports to the assistant director, Research and Digital Services, Weill Cornell Medical Library.

Position Activities: Provide support to the CTSC, biomedical informatics programs, and other research areas. Build relationships with bench researchers and clinicians through proactive participation in clinical librarian and other informationist programs. Partner with clinical informatics to increase information access in the electronic medical record. Collaborate with health and life sciences librarians at Cornell University and Hunter College to further e-science initiatives. Assist with data curation, and data discovery and access processes.

Required: Graduate degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited institution. Advanced degree in basic sciences, informatics, or related field preferred. Demonstrated expertise in the use of bibliographic research tools. Experience in the use of molecular or genetic databases or translational science computational methods a plus. Two years of professional experience in a biomedical or hospital library preferred. Excellent technical, written, and verbal communication skills and teaching or presentation skills. Able to work collaboratively in a team environment. Demonstrated initiative, the ability to manage multiple projects, and a commitment to professional development.

Department: Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) Library. Description: The primary focus of this position will be to train library clients to become efficient and effective users of available information resources and tools in the service of clinical care. Duties may include participation in just-in-time instruction on rounds, morning report and conference series, departmental meetings, and CMSRU curricular instruction. The librarian in this position will design, deliver, promote, and evaluate information literacy and evidence-based practice (EBP) training and provide customized consultation services in person, by phone, or electronically. The librarian will also identify needs and develop programs that focus on the changing technology needs of the library, faculty, staff, and students. This includes responsibility to follow the development of new and emerging technologies in the field and analyze the potential of new technologies; identify and recommend new technologies and their application to the library that will significantly improve or transform the library’s current services for information resource discovery and retrieval; and participate in departmental and library-wide technological planning and implementation activities. The information services librarian will perform literature searches and provide advanced research assistance to students and faculty, as well as hospital staff and administration, to support clinical care and research. This position reports to the assistant director of the library.

Required: ALA-accredited master’s degree in library science with a minimum of 3 years of library and teaching experience in a health sciences or hospital library is required. Knowledge of the concepts of information literacy, including an in-depth understanding of EBP. Experience in developing and presenting educational sessions. Proficiency with health sciences databases, resources, and literature. Knowledge of issues, trends, and best practices of expert searching in health sciences libraries. Ability to effectively teach adults using a variety of educational technologies. Excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills. Strong analytical and organizational skills. Excellent customer service skills are required along with a commitment to customer service. Knowledge of and willingness to support and participate in scholarly communication. Familiarity with the use of new media technologies in educational settings, with the ability to acquire new technological skills and resolve problems in a resourceful and timely manner. Ability to work well independently, as part of a team, and as the leader of a team.

Preferred: Knowledge of evidence-based medicine (EBM) issues and experience with EBM resources. Familiarity with inpatient and ambulatory health care environments. Experience in building collaborative relationships with clinical faculty and house staff. Experience in contributing knowledge management expertise for group instruction sessions, individual consultations, and specialized information services, and attendance at clinical research committee meetings, clinical rounds, journal clubs, seminars, and/or case conferences.
